Be Flood Smart

Did you know 1 foot of floodwater can lift up a vehicle and sweep it away? What about that just 6 inches of moving stormwater can knock an adult off his or her feet?

The District asks for your help to educate students about Southern Nevada's unique climate, flood control facilities and the dangers associated with flash flooding.

Elementary Program

More than 80,000 students have participated in the District's flood safety presentations. The goal is for kids to learn to stay out of flood control facilities, how to better protect Lake Mead, and to remind their families not to drive through flooded roads.

If you're a teacher or organizational leader, you can click here to request a presentation from a District team member.

Virtual Reality for Teens

In Clark County, 60% of drivers under the age of 24 admitted to driving through flooded roads. This must stop.

To immerse teens in what happens when water takes the wheel, the District created a virtual reality experience, "Water Always Wins." A Google cardboard headset. The 360-degree video replicates the look and feel of a flash flood from the driver's seat.
